Unit 9 · Wild and wonderful

p.84–91 + p.121 · 9 页 · 8 段音频

本单元知识框架

本单元围绕“自然奇观与极端天气”话题,通过阅读杂志文章和博客、听采访等任务,重点学习形容词比较级和最高级以及 can/can't 表能力的用法,并练习谈论天气和表达赞美。

学完能做到

  • Read a magazine article to identify information about people living in wild places
  • Use comparative and superlative adjectives to compare geographical features and weather events
  • Use can and can't to talk about ability
  • Talk about the weather using specific vocabulary
  • Pay compliments using What a lovely...! and ...really looks wonderful
  • Write an email about an amazing weather event

教学重难点

  • 比较级中 more 与 -er 的混用(母语负迁移导致学生觉得“更”就要加 more)。中国学生极易造出 *more bigger 或 *more hotter 这样的错句。课上讲 Grammar 板块时,务必强调 Language note 中的规则:“We never use more and -er together”,并通过 Vocabulary 板块的配对活动让学生口头反复操练单音节和多音节形容词的比较级转换。
  • 辅元辅结尾单词双写尾字母的遗漏。学生在拼写时经常忘记双写,写出 *biger, *hoter, *the bigest。在教 Grammar 表格时,要带学生拆解 big -> b-i-g(辅-元-辅),明确公式“双写最后一个辅音字母再加 -er/-est”,并在 Workbook 的 Get it Right! 板块进行专项纠错听写。
  • can 作情态动词时的第三人称单数误加 s。受一般现在时三单规则影响,学生常写出 *He cans swim. 或 *She can plays tennis. 讲 Grammar 板块时需明确指出 can 是 modal verb,“only has a single form for all persons”,后面直接跟动词原形,且简略回答只能说 Yes, I can. 绝不能说 *Yes, I can do.。
在 Developing speaking 的 Key Language 环节,要结合 Language note 讲透:单数可数名词用 What a + adj. + n.,复数或不可数名词直接用 What + adj. + n.,并提醒 look 后面接形容词而非副词(*looks amazingly 是错的)。
  • 最高级前漏掉定冠词 the。受中文“最……”没有冠词的影响,学生常写出 *It is biggest city. 或 *He is best student.。在 Grammar 讲 Superlative adjectives 时,必须在黑板上写出公式“the + 最高级 + 名词”,并通过 Reading 课文中的原句(如 the most dramatic temperature change, the biggest snowfall)让学生划出 the,强化视觉记忆。

四项技能

听
听一段关于卡拉哈里布须曼人的采访,抓取细节信息并选出最佳标题;听录音核对地理特征和天气词汇的发音
说
结对讨论野生动物及其栖息地,运用目标语言描述动物特征;使用比较级对比不同的地理景观(如 A mountain is higher than a hill);角色扮演,运用 Key Language 中的句型向同伴表达赞美
读
略读杂志文章 The wild side of life,快速定位文章涉及的四个地区;细读文章判断正误并纠正错误信息;阅读博客 Extreme nature!,提取关于极端天气事件的具体数据和细节
写
写一封非正式邮件(100–125词),描述一次令人惊叹的天气事件,包含地点、特殊天气及人们的反应;运用正确的邮件格式(称呼语 Hi/Dear,结束语 Bye/Take care/Love)

语法

Comparative adjectives

用于比较两个人、事物或想法的某一方面。结构:单音节词加 -er(辅元辅结尾双写尾字母再加 -er),以辅音+y结尾的词变 y 为 i 加 -er,多音节词前加 more;不规则变化需单独记忆。比较对象之间用 than 连接。注意绝对不能将 more 和 -er 同时使用(如 *more smaller 是错的)。

  • Africa is bigger than Europe, but smaller than Asia.
  • Be careful with the spiders in the Kalahari. They’re more dangerous than in Europe.
  • Cars these days are better quality than they were 30 years ago.
  • The south part is drier than the north and plants do not grow there very well.
can / can’t for ability

表示能力的情态动词。结构:主语 + can/can't + 动词原形。can 作为情态动词所有人称形式相同(第三人称单数不加 s),否定直接在 can 后加 n't,疑问句将 can 提至主语前,简略回答直接用 Yes, I can. / No, I can't.,不能写成 *Yes, I can do.

  • I/you/we/they/he/she/it can run fast.
  • Matt can drive a car, but he can’t fly a plane.
  • Can I/you/we/they/he/she/it run fast?
  • When boys turn 13, they can become golden eagle hunters.
Superlative adjectives

用于表示在同类中“最……”的人或事物。结构:单音节词加 -est(辅元辅结尾双写尾字母再加 -est),以辅音+y结尾的词变 y 为 i 加 -est,多音节词前加 most;前面必须加定冠词 the。不规则变化需单独记忆。

  • It was the most dramatic temperature change in the history of American weather.
  • It was the biggest snowfall ever in a day.
  • 21 June is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere.
  • However, Reykjavik could also be the worst place to be.
